I would like to get my HDTV calibrated. How much will it improve the picture?

This is a very difficult question to answer since we are unsure as to where you are starting from. It would be equivalent to asking someone for directions to New York and you don't know where you currently are. However, that being said, most HDTVs will be vastly improved over out-of-the-box performance.

What is the difference between THX Video Certification and ISF calibration?

There are many differences between the two certifications with the THX requirements the more difficult to satisfy and obtain certification. However, the major difference lies in the individual, and their dedication to bringing you the best picture possible.

Will you calibrate any make and model TV or projector?

We do service most make and models. We specialize in flat panels and front projectors including enabling ISFccc modes on Pioneer displays. There are a few that we prefer not to service, and we ask that you notify us of your make and model before we give you a quote.

We have a living room entertainment center. Can the sound be improved that much?

The honest answer is it depends. However, the general answer is YES...often by a great deal! Sound systems are dependent on really two things; arrangement and adjustment. Many clients are challenged to align their sound systems properly, and with good reason. It requires advanced test equipment well beyond the simple SPL meter to align a system properly. In addition, tonal quality (timbre) of speakers and poor subwoofer performance often need to be corrected for through electronic means. For this reason, we highly recommend the implementation of Audyssey products such as the Audyssey Sub Equalizer, SoundEQ or the installation of MultEQ Pro in your qualifying MultEQ XT audio receiver or preamp/processor.

Do you provide consulting services for commercial and liturgical spaces?

Yes, we are fully capable of providing acoustic consulting services for these types of environments. An example proposal is available here.

My significant other does not want sound panels hanging on the wall. Do I need treatment to obtain the best sound for my room?

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is, yes. The good news is that the implementation of sound treatment has come a very long way in the past several years. It is no longer necessary to choose form over function. Our company deals exclusively with industry leader Quest Acoustical Interiors' products. With the aid of Quest's products and services we are no longer constrained to place "fuzzy" material on the wall, but can now hide acoustical treatment "behind" the wall. Exterior panels can now be delivered with a variety of shapes, sizes and colors to make any space look warm and inviting. You needn't look at treatment any longer as a necessary evil, but more as a work of art.

I am considering building a home theater. When should Sound Advice be contacted?

The sooner the better! The first consultation is free within the local commuting area, and distance consultations can be arranged via teleconferencing or telephone. A well designed home theater will undoubtedly be the most engineered and sculpted room in your home. There is nothing in a home theater that was not specifically designed to be there. This takes a significant period of time to create, so the sooner you start the process the happier you will be with the end result. It is not at all unusual for dedicated theater rooms to take several months from start to finish.
